Welcoming the 2018 Lunar New Year!

2.17.2018

Happy Year of the Goat everyone...

According to the Chinese zodiac, there are 12 animals signs (read your Chinese horoscope here) and 2018 happens to be the year of the goat. As tradition, we usually go to the temple to pray, eat, and read our fortunes for the lunar new year. This year we went to Chua Hue Quang in Garden Grove but it was too dark to take photos last night so I'm sharing these from last year when we went to Chua Duoc Su in Anaheim wearing our ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress).
Fun fact: we went to Sunday temple school at both locations!

The night before or the eve of Tet (Vietnamese for "lunar new year"), I go to the Mister's family's house to pray and eat dinner together. It's a fun time to gather and give thanks to everyone for all the love throughout the year and wishing each other many blessings for the lunar new year. My family doesn't usually do this so it feels nice to experience it with them and understand the Vietnamese culture more. Since all my relatives are in Vietnam, I'm always fascinated to learn more about it to carry on (and create new) traditions for my own family in the future.

Do you have any lunar new year traditions that you partake?

Thanks for reading and sending you hugs!
