Top 5 Things to Do in Kauai

If you've never been to Kauai before, don't worry I'm breaking it down for you...

I just came back from my bachelorette last month {more on that later} and rounded up my list of Top 5 Things to Do in Kauai when visiting this beautiful island.

1. Take a road trip.
To really explore and get a feel of the island, the best way to do so is to take a road trip. Rent a car at the airport and enjoy your cruise while driving along the coast. There's something so serene and relaxing when doing so. Plus, you get a great view of the ocean and palm trees along the way.

2. Hike to a waterfall.

Kauai is known for their majestic waterfalls and it's no wonder! Due to our limited time here, we wanted to pick a short hike with a waterfall and went with Opaeka'a Falls since it was just a couple minutes from our hotel. To get here, you drive to a viewpoint that overlooks the whole lush greenery with a splendid top view of the three flowing waterfalls. There is no strenuous hike needed to see the view from atop but if you want to do the hike to get to the bottom, it'll take about 20-30 minutes so be prepared. TRAVEL TIP: Remember to pack sunscreen, bug spray, snacks (i.e. granola bars) and water!

3. Set sail.

If you're looking for a unique excursion then try sailing on a yacht. We went with Captain Andy's where you can get breakfast, go snorkeling, sail along Na Pali coast, and get a BBQ lunch (with beer and wine!). FYI: if you get motion sickness, we highly recommend to take something beforehand cause the ocean waters do get really choppy out there in the open waters.

4. Visit Queen's Bath.
Alright, so you do need to go on quite a hike to get to this spot so be careful. This photo taken here is actually not of Queen's Bath but en route to it (it was probably another 5-10 minutes from this spot). The Queen's Bath is almost like a small pool surrounded by these huge rocks that's right next to the ocean with an open canal so the ocean waters do splash into there. Plus, the hike and view is so beautiful when you finally get there! I could've just sat and stared at the pretty blue waters all day. Warning though: always be safe first as there has been many deaths from drowning here due to the unpredictable nature of the ocean waters. 

5. Relax by the beach.

We pretty much did this the first day we landed after we checked in. Our hotel had beach front access and it was really nice to be able to relax and enjoy the scenic view. Now just insert a pina colada and that, my friend, is what paradise is all about, right?
